Mealtime woes.

Mealtimes have never been easy for us, but lately they've been incredibly difficult. If K4 isn't spitting food out, he's swatting the spoon sending food flying. Needless to say my patience is running thin & it usually ends with both of us in tears & food everywhere. It started to get even more stressful after we saw our pediatrician for our 1-year checkup. Apparently k4 hadn't gained any weight since his last appointment, instead he lost a pound and our pediatrician was less than impressed. She said she was giving us 3 months to put weight on him or else she was going to start poking and prodding, thus intensifying the mealtime stress.

To say this hurt my mommy ego is an understatement, it pretty much killed it. Saying my kid is underweight, is telling me he is under loved. I realize this sounds ridiculous, but I am my mother's child and if you've ever met my mom chances are she's fed you. A.LOT. And that's how she shows love. As a result, I can't help but equate food with love.

I needed help. So, I did what any mom would do…I took to facebook & got some helpful tips & words of encouragement, but most importantly I got assurance that stressful mealtimes happen not only at my dinner table.

We tried everything. Finger foods, own utensils, lots of cheering…you name it chances are we tried it, but it took my sister-in-law to pin point the exact reason why mealtimes were so stressful for us. And it boiled down to mess. Sticky mess. I couldn't stand it. I hated it. And she told me to…GET OVER IT.

So I did & now mealtimes are less stressful. Messy, but far less stressful. BEST.ADVICE.EVER.
